Required Documents for Transporting Pets (Dogs and Cats) from Canada to the U.S.:

For Dogs:

Rabies Vaccination Certificate

  • Dogs must have a valid rabies vaccination certificate, issued by a licensed veterinarian. The certificate should include information such as the dog’s breed, age, color, the date of vaccination, the vaccine manufacturer, and the expiration date.
  • Puppies under 3 months are generally exempt but may require additional documentation based on the specific port of entry.

Health Certificate (Optional but Recommended)

  • While a health certificate is not always mandatory for dogs entering the U.S., it’s highly recommended. This document, issued by a veterinarian, confirms the dog’s overall health and suitability for travel.

Proof of Ownership

  • It’s advisable to carry documents that prove ownership, such as adoption papers or purchase receipts, especially if you’re not traveling with the pet.

For Cats:

Rabies Vaccination Certificate

  • Although not always required by U.S. federal law, some states may require cats to have a rabies vaccination certificate. We recommend obtaining one for a smooth entry process.

Health Certificate (Optional but Recommended)

  • A health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian is recommended, confirming the cat’s overall health. While it’s not strictly required, it can help ensure a smooth border crossing, especially in states with specific health regulations for cats.

Proof of Ownership

  • Documents proving ownership, such as a purchase receipt or adoption records, can be helpful, particularly if the pet is traveling alone.

With PetQuix, your pet’s journey from Canada to the U.S. will be safe, comfortable, and fully compliant with all regulatory requirements. We handle every detail so that your pet arrives happy, healthy, and ready for new adventures in the U.S.!
